1. An individual, group of individuals or a clone representing a genotype, variety, species or culture, held in an in situ or ex situ collection.
2. Original meaning, now no longer in use: the genetic material that forms the physical basis of inheritance and which is transmitted from one generation to the next by means of the germ cells
