phytoremediation

phytoremediation
The use of plants actively to remove contaminants or pollutants from either soils (e.g. polluted fields) or water resources (e.g. polluted lakes). An example is the exploitation of the Brazil water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) to accumulate in its tissues toxic metals such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, nickel, and copper.
