transcriptional roadblock

transcriptional roadblock
A DNA-binding protein which affects the rate at which RNA polymerases transcribe genes. The protein/DNA complex interferes with the passage of the elongation complex. In some cases these obstacles are readily bypassed, but in others a significant level of pausing or termination occurs, and this can then act as a control point for gene expression.
